Some dogs come into our lives and change everything. For me, that dog was Bert — my heart dog, my travel companion, my show dog extraordinaire, and the beautiful soul who made every adventure feel safe. He will always hold a place in my heart that no other dog can fill.
🖤 A Dog With Presence
Bert wasn’t just handsome — he had presence. The kind of presence that made people pause, turn their heads, and admire him even before they knew his name. He was loved most by teenage girls and burly tradies 😅
In the show ring, he was magnetic. Strong, elegant, balanced, and confident — the complete package. He became my most successful show dog, earning his Grand Champion title with style, grace, and a little bit of that Bert magic that only he had.
But beyond the ribbons, what set him apart was the way he carried himself…Always steady. Always sure. Always watching me with that calm, loyal gaze that said, I’m here. You’re safe.
💙 Adventures Across the East Coast
Bert was the ultimate travelling buddy — the kind of dog who made any trip feel like an adventure shared between best friends.
We travelled all up and down the east coast together, showing at the:
Melbourne Royal
Sydney Royal
Brisbane Royal
Long days, early mornings, hotel rooms, packed cars — he took it all in stride. He loved the journey as much as the destination.
No matter where we went, he made me feel grounded. Confident. Safe. There was something incredibly comforting about having him beside me — like the world was just a little easier with him in it.
🖤 My Heart Dog
Every dog we love leaves pawprints on our hearts, but Bert’s mark is deeper — woven into my life, my memories, and my love for this breed.
He was loyal, gentle, patient, intuitive… and so incredibly connected to me. He was the dog I trusted completely — the one who always seemed to know what I needed before I did.
He passed just before his 9th birthday in 2025, and losing him broke my heart in ways I still feel. I miss his presence. I miss his strength. I miss the way he made me feel safe, no matter where we were.
But more than anything, I’m grateful — for every minute we travelled together, every ribbon, every quiet moment, and every adventure where it was just the two of us.
💙 Always With Me
Bert may no longer walk beside me, but he continues to shape Cutecurl Retrievers every single day.
His legacy lives on in the dogs who came after him, in the memories of the judges and friends who admired him, and in the countless stories I still treasure.
✨ He was a Grand Champion in the ring… and a once-in-a-lifetime companion in life.
I will always miss him. I will always love him.
